08. mise en scene

Image
08. mise en scene for today’s blog post, I will be analyzing the scene composition of (obviously, I mean this is a no brainer)... now, before we do that, we must first describe what exactly mise en scene is. according to my research 🤓☝️, mise en scene is a French term that refers to the many elements that make up one scene. This includes things such as lighting, the positioning of actors in the frame, costumes, the way the set is staged, anything that the camera’s view touches. i hope you processed that, because we're gonna dive right into it. now, the obvious thing that stands out about the mise en scene in barbie is, obviously, the set dressing. the props in the movie often look plasticky, and in some of the scenes they're actually just stickers! (like in her fridge, which is exactly like how it is with the actual dollhouses) fun fact: there was a shortage of pink paint in the world from how much was being used in this movie! so, considering it's abundance, of course th...

07. mood board

Image
07. mood board for this blog post, i have created a mood board for the movie i recently wrote about in blog post 5!  if you haven't seen that yet, you can read it  here!  (great blog, i promise you and i have absolutely no bias whatsoever 100% real, no clickbait) today, i'll be going over the pictures i chose to include in the mood board and why. so, lets get into it! now, there are some pictures that can be self explanatory here. for example, i included the swatch of barbie pink because i felt that it was an obvious must-have in the collage. the Hollywood sign and a picture of the beach were included in order to remind me of malibu, or LA, where Barbie lives! the same can be said for the dollhouse as well.  but there are some other pictures that i had to put a lot more thought and care into. the first one that i want to touch on the rocket, since it seems very out of place. i chose to put that picture into my mood board because the theme of the movie is journey and ...

06. sound story

Image
-- sound story! oh boy, its finally the time for my skills from making BTS fanfictions on youtube in 2017 to come in handy. just kidding... maybe. if you find that, no you didnt. BUT ANYWAY! this particular assignment was really fun, especially since i got to do it with a, guess what, PARTNER! 2 vs 1 baby. i was lucky enough to work with the loveeeely gyongy, gorgeous fashion expert with her own blog, you can check her own version of this blog and her sensational blog  here! so, super big thanks to my amazing partner, gyongy, for working with me on this and being so cool and awesome. i definitely feel like i learned some stuff about mixing audio that i didnt before, since the clips i used in my past experiences were all recorded in a studio setting and easily available, and therefore felt easier to remix and spin into what i wanted. without further ado, allow me to present to you... our sound story! now, in case you've been left wondering what the hex that was, here is the script f...

05. movie analysis

Image
---  movie analysis. for this movie analysis, i felt that there was really only one correct choice. and that, of course, was... the barbie movie is one that i hold really close to my heart despite everything. i watched the movie in theaters with my mom, so the movie certainly felt a little close to home. not only do i love barbie, but i also really love my mom, and this movie felt like things that i myself have felt before. this emotional connection sort of led me into being really curious about the movie's making, which is why i thought it was perfect for this topic. i noticed that the movie had a pretty good range of shots, used to show both the setting and certain messages or emotions that the director wanted to convey. the beginning of the movie uses higher angles to establish the setting, Barbie land. the aerial shot at the beginning, for example, gives us a view of Barbie land in its entirety, highlighting just how surreal the country was meant to be. everything is pink and i...
