oh boy, its finally the time for my skills from making BTS fanfictions on youtube in 2017 to come in handy.
just kidding... maybe. if you find that, no you didnt. BUT ANYWAY! this particular assignment was really fun, especially since i got to do it with a, guess what, PARTNER! 2 vs 1 baby. i was lucky enough to work with the loveeeely gyongy, gorgeous fashion expert with her own blog, you can check her own version of this blog and her sensational blog here!
so, super big thanks to my amazing partner, gyongy, for working with me on this and being so cool and awesome. i definitely feel like i learned some stuff about mixing audio that i didnt before, since the clips i used in my past experiences were all recorded in a studio setting and easily available, and therefore felt easier to remix and spin into what i wanted.
without further ado, allow me to present to you... our sound story!

okay! now that we've gotten that out of the way, lets actually get into the nitty gritty of things. for our sound story, my partner and i had originally planned to have it follow a model as she gets ready backstage to walk in a big show. it was what brought us together for this assignment, since gia loves fashion, as do i! we had first talked about how it would be cool to have the sounds of how the model's heartbeat sped up and sort of have a moment of pre-show jitters. the layering of sounds for that particular part had a lot of potential, though we quickly ran out of much inspiration for the other parts.
so, we decided to change things up a little bit. while still keeping the "hey girly grwm" idea, we shifted it away from supermodel and more of a girl just wanting to go out and have fun with her friends. i think what was great about not giving a definite reason for why the girl in the sound story was going out is that one can easily give meaning and context to the story in a more personal way. one person might heart this and think "oh i see, she's going out to feel better after a bad breakup!" and another person might think something completely different. its a nice reminder that art is subjective, and that everything has meaning because we as people decide that it does.
but.. i'm gonna have to break that little illusion a bit, because now its time to show how things worked behind the curtain a little bit with our foley stage video!
the creative process after modifying the idea felt relatively chill, it was nice to see (or.. hear, i guess?) the vision come to life. it did feel a little bit weird filming myself brushing my hair and stuff, and i struggled a bit not to laugh. the sounds were nice and crunchy, although it definitely sounded better than it felt to be working the knots out of my hair. a good chunk of the sounds were taken off of youtube, since there wasn't really a way for us to do them ourselves. the editing of the audio had to be redone since we didn't end up super happy with the results the first time around, but i'd say the end result was great!!
here is our foley video! i hope you enjoyed today's blog, see you next time! (˶ˆᗜˆ˵)
08. mise en scene for today’s blog post, I will be analyzing the scene composition of (obviously, I mean this is a no brainer)... now, before we do that, we must first describe what exactly mise en scene is. according to my research 🤓☝️, mise en scene is a French term that refers to the many elements that make up one scene. This includes things such as lighting, the positioning of actors in the frame, costumes, the way the set is staged, anything that the camera’s view touches. i hope you processed that, because we're gonna dive right into it. now, the obvious thing that stands out about the mise en scene in barbie is, obviously, the set dressing. the props in the movie often look plasticky, and in some of the scenes they're actually just stickers! (like in her fridge, which is exactly like how it is with the actual dollhouses) fun fact: there was a shortage of pink paint in the world from how much was being used in this movie! so, considering it's abundance, of course th...
44. final project! I wanna thank the academy, I wanna thank my mom, my dad, my bed… No, but seriously, it’s been a long road to get here, so I’m excited that the final project is here! We had some hiccups along the way and she was a very stressful delivery, but we are here nonetheless. There’s not much to say here, but I will add in a couple of disclaimers and extra things. So don’t worry, you’re not missing anything too important (I know you just wanna watch the video, not read me talk endlessly like always) DISCLAIMER: For educational use only! The song at the beginning of the opening was done by me! I wrote the lyrics, sang it (…let’s not talk about that lol) and added in the sound effects (credits to my friend for the laugh, sorry for making you record it 20 times) I went more into detail here, in case you want to know the credits for the beat and one of the sound effects. That’s pretty much it, so I hope you enjoyed this little journey with me. I certain...
