17. preparing to film


i'm in my director era, i say to my delusions.


nah, just kidding. we're not at that point yet. but we ARE at the point in which we're about to film, so let me update you guys on how we're preparing and what we've got right now. i'm gonna split this up into a couple of categories, but lets start with the stars of the show, the actors! (or... actresses, since we're girl bosses)


1. actors

the lovely gyongy is gonna be our main character, gigi, and i'm gonna voice the dad (i wanna thank the academy, my parents, my hair rollers...)

2. costumes

the setting for the

movie needed to feel very personal

and casual for the main character,

so we let gia have control over

the outfit she would wear in the film.

however, we did try to have a light

shade of pink for storytelling

purposes that i'll tell you all about

in a later blog post.


3. props

our props were arguably one of if not the most important part of this. they are what we tell the story through for the most part. we plan to have a birthday sash, a cake, a phone (obviously, lol), a calendar, and some birthday decorations for the setting downstairs. we also decided to use a picture frame (with the picture inside, idk if i needed to clarify that) to show gigi's family.


4. locations


choosing our location was really easy. since our movie was set inside a house, it felt like a no-brainer to choose one of ours. but, because gia was the one going to play the main character, we decided it should be her house. this way, it would be more natural for her to act in.


5. dates and times


originally we had planned to film on january 2nd,

but now we changed it to january 3rd! we will

(hopefully) begin filming at around 12:00 PM.


6. film equipment 


our film equipment is pretty simple. just our phones (we all own iPhones, lol) and a tripod that can attach to the phones.

08. mise en scene for today’s blog post, I will be analyzing the scene composition of (obviously, I mean this is a no brainer)... now, before we do that, we must first describe what exactly mise en scene is. according to my research 🤓☝️, mise en scene is a French term that refers to the many elements that make up one scene. This includes things such as lighting, the positioning of actors in the frame, costumes, the way the set is staged, anything that the camera’s view touches. i hope you processed that, because we're gonna dive right into it. now, the obvious thing that stands out about the mise en scene in barbie is, obviously, the set dressing. the props in the movie often look plasticky, and in some of the scenes they're actually just stickers! 44. final project!

44. final project! I wanna thank the academy, I wanna thank my mom, my dad, my bed…   No, but seriously, it’s been a long road to get here, so I’m excited that the final project is here! We had some hiccups along the way and she was a very stressful delivery, but we are here nonetheless. There’s not much to say here, but I will add in a couple of disclaimers and extra things.
