-- WHO AM I?

my dog, leiaദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧

me !!
my name is Geraldine Davalos, but if you ask my family, they'll tell you i'm "nani". i go by either! i like to say i live a bit of a double life, hannah montana style but... a little less exciting, probably. i was born on august 28th, 2007 in mexico to my lovely parents and a slightly annoying older brother in the very heart of the country, mexico city! when i was around 7 my family and i made the big move to the united states. florida, specifically. skip forward a couple of embarrassing phases and lots of growth spurts, i'm now almost 17 (dancing queen, young and sweet..) and a senior in high school. i have a dog, who's my absolute best friend and worst nightmare at the same time, and lots of big dreams. my interests include music, dancing, arts and crafts, writing, reading, movies, video games, and anything in the color pink! i consume a lot of media on the daily, which leads us to our next question...

-- WHY AM I TAKING THIS CLASS?

the kubrick stare as
shown in
"the shining"
(1980)

dutch angle origin,
"the cabinet of
dr. caligari"
(1920)

dutch angle in
"the bride of Frankenstein"
(1935)

i'm taking this class because i personally have an interest in making content of many kinds! as a kid, i grew up watching youtubers like game theory, markiplier, pewdiepie, and way more than i can possibly name on here (this portion of the blog would be who-knows-how-long... ˊᗜˋ*) i've always been very interested on how videos, films, and series are created, from when the concepts for them first begin, to when they're being edited in post. naturally, i've learned a thing or two about cinematography, such as the use of the kubrick stare and dutch angles to portray instability or madness in subjects, or the principle of chekhov's gun and its applications in film-making as well as other story-telling methods, mainly from watching some older movies that employ these techniques as well as videos that analyze them. so, as someone who loves analyzing the deeper meaning of things and filmmaking, i chose to take up the class so i could better enlighten myself to how much thought really goes into the media that i am entertained by on the daily. to appreciate the true, deeper beauty that lies behind carefully thought out angles, colors, and choices.
